Published on 26 May 2016
Toronto, May 26, 2016. During the annual diTHINK conference of the Ontario Research and Innovation Optical Network (ORION) held today, Groupe Média TFO's Technology and Optimization Chief Officer Éric Minoli won the ORION’s Leadership Award for his exceptional achievements in using ORION's network and cloud-computing services. Groupe Média TFO thus confirms its position as one of the leaders in education in Ontario. "The new education model of Ontarian learners is digital. It goes beyond classrooms, touches all age groups and gives collaboration a great deal of importance. We congratulate Groupe Média TFO for its forward-thinking in using the latest in technology for the field of education," said Janine Griffore, Assistant Deputy Minister, French-Language, Aboriginal Learning and Research Division of the Ministry of Education. During the ceremony, the Ontario Research and Innovation Optical Network (ORION) also highlighted the exceptional work performed by Alla Reznik and Brock Dubbels, who are also leaders in matters of research, education and innovation in Ontario. "We are proud of receiving ORION's prestigious award, as it underscores the remarkable vision and work performed by Éric Minoli. Our unique innovation process, which has unfolded over the past 5 years, is a team effort conducted by Éric Minoli's team and all of Groupe Média TFO's employees. Our innovative culture is alive and well within the company as a whole," said Groupe Média TFO’s President and chief executive officer Glenn O’Farrell. Éric Minoli's model has made it possible to develop and implement innovative, quick and efficient accessibility solutions so that the near 30,000 teachers and 2 million students served by TFO can enjoy quality education content instantaneously. In order to share TFO's content faster with ORION's network members, Éric Minoli and his team implemented an innovative infrastructure using ORION's optical fiber network in two ways, which included offering high-quality educational content in French to students aged between preschool and the 12th year. His model has, in particular, helped to share IDELLO's educational content with the whole world. With a focus on the stakes of education in the 21st century, IDELLO ― an innovation by Groupe Média TFO ― provides access to thousands of rich and current educational resources in French. The educational platform was designed to adapt to various learning styles while promoting exchanges between teachers, students and their parents through a virtual workspace between user communities who share similar interests. The structure implemented by Éric Minoli has also made it possible to broadcast multimedia content in classrooms all over Ontario and abroad through national and international research and education networks. As the first network in Canada to implement a 100 G network, ORION remains one of the fastest and largest in the world, generating research activity that directly contributes 4.4 billion dollars to Ontario's GDP. "I would like to thank ORION for this prestigious award, which confirms Groupe Média TFO's position as an innovative media within Canada's research and education network. Even with limited financial resources, Groupe Média TFO has demonstrated that there are no limits to innovation," said Éric Minoli.
